Most CPAP masks feature silicone cushions, while the UltraSoft™ cushion in ResMed’s AirTouch 20 series is made from softer memory foam, making them much lighter and gentler on skin. The masks are designed to adapt to the contours of your face for a personalised fit while also reducing skin irritation, soreness and red facial marks.
The unique properties of foam ensure that, even when sealed firmly against your face, it provides a feeling of less friction and contact pressure than a standard silicone cushion – resulting in a reduced likelihood of facial marks.1 Because foam is porous, the cushion allows a tiny amount of air to pass through the cushion so that it feels breathable.
With the disposable AirTouch Ultrasoft memory foam cushion, all you need to do is wipe it down after each use and replace it once a month. There’s no need to wash and dry them daily, with studies showing that AirTouch mask cushions are hygienic to use for one month without wet cleaning.2-4 With regular cushion replacement, you’ll experience a fresh feeling every time, like a clean set of sheets or a brand new shaving razor.
What makes the memory foam cushion unique is that it’s designed to adapt to challenging facial features, such as deep wrinkles, sensitive skin. In fact, a ResMed study in 2017 showed that CPAP users with facial hair achieved a significantly better mask seal with a ResMed AirTouch F20 full face mask than with their usual silicone mask.5
We recommend you replace the UltraSoft memory foam cushion once a month to maintain mask comfort and hygiene.
Masks with a memory foam cushion are designed to feel softer than masks with a silicone cushion, while still offering an effective seal. They are also designed to reduce redness and skin irritation and are ideal for those who want extra comfort.
