ResMed asked for volunteers to help us create this tool. More than 7400 volunteers uploaded selfies to help develop this tool. The volunteers were a mix of people diagnosed with mild to severe sleep apnea (7301 volunteers) and people who have never been diagnosed with sleep apnea (172 volunteers). This allowed us to start to develop an artificial intelligence model that aims to flag people who may be at risk of sleep apnea based on visual characteristics of their face. This model is not yet complete and will continue to be refined. ResMed is not making any claims about the accuracy of the model at this time. How it works
The SelfieScreener tool uses an artificial intelligence model to classify visual indicators of an individuals face that may indicate risk factors associated with Sleep Apnea. Using a facial photograph (also known as a selfie), the tool will identify the presence of potential visual indicators using the AI classifier model. An AI classifier model sorts data into categories based on learned patterns from provided examples.
